Miami Immersive Reflection

Hi Gamma Heads,

This last week was busy! At the end of May, I traveled to Florida, starting with a stop to see my best friend from college for his birthday, but that is not the most important part. I traveled to Miami for the Miami Immersive Intensive, an event presented by Juggerknot Theatre Company and Live Arts Miami. 

So what was it? First off, I need to explain what "immersive" means. Immersive art is a wide field of entertainment ranging from theme parks to theatre to art exhibits to cruise ships. It’s wild, right? I got into this field during college when some alumni who were working for Universal Studios came to speak. I was immediately interested. I had never even considered that it was even a possibility. In that class I wrote my first experience, which was an augmented reality escape room with live actors. 

After that, I attended the Disney College Program, where I worked at Disney World, which was a dream come true. I knew that immersive was what I wanted to do with my life. So that brings us to today. Now I am working on my own immersive experiences. And this event was the perfect place to expand my knowledge. 

In Miami, I learned from people leading the expansion of this space on topics from projection mapping, theatre, virtual reality, real estate, cruises, and more. And I got to connect with creators from all over the country who were also there to learn. I heard about projects that I had never even dreamed were possible. People came from all different walks of life to learn and network. I hate the word networking because this was more authentic. We connected and shared deep parts of ourselves.
